Dealertrack DMS: A Practical Choice for Dealers

Likeliness to Recommend

9 /10

What differentiates Dealertrack DMS from other similar products?

The differentiator is the level of implementation, training, and ongoing support that comes with the platform. Dealertrack Managers, 24/7 support, and continuing training. That matters because switching or upgrading a DMS is not just a technology project—it affects employees, processes, reporting, customer interaction, and everyday dealership operations. Having support throughout that transition can make adoption less stressful.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The favourite feature for me is the open integration approach. Dealertrack doesn’t require a dealership to abandon every other technology it already uses. It’s Opentrack platform supports integration with the third-party vendors, while Dealertrack say it’s DMS connects with more than 275 certified vendors and over 375 OEM integration points. And I also see a lot of value in how connected the platform can become with other dealerships solutions.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The area I would like to see improved is customization. Dealertrack doesn’t require have different processes, user roles, and reporting requirements, so having more control over permissions, dashboards, and workflows would be helpful. Some reviewers have specifically mentioned wanting more flexibility with user roles and access levels.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

The recommendation is to involve employees early. Switching a DMS is a major operational change, and getting buy -in from department managers and frontline users can make the transition much smoother. Dealertrack’s implementation process includes planning, configuration, training, sandbox testing, and post-launch support, so I would take full advantage of those resources rather than treating implementation as something the vendor handles entirely on its own.
