Big Insights, Bigger Metadata: BigQuery in Action!
Likeliness to Recommend
What differentiates Google BigQuery from other similar products?
Google BigQuery's strength lies in how effortlessly it handles massive datasets while allowing you to structure and query metadata at lightning speed. BigQuery adapts to diverse scenarios, making it a standout platform for metadata-heavy environments. It brings the scalability of Google’s cloud infrastructure with the flexibility to analyze metadata from just about any source.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
What I’ve found incredibly helpful is how BigQuery handles schema evolution. You don’t have to worry about static designs; it allows for dynamic adjustments without breaking queries or requiring laborious updates. The ability to use SQL-like syntax for querying metadata means there’s no steep learning curve, and integrations with tools like Looker make it even more accessible for visualization
What do you dislike most about this product?
The cost of queries, while manageable, can sometimes sneak up on you if your metadata processes involve multiple nested queries or large datasets. Also, while it excels at integration, there’s still room to improve its built-in governance
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
By centralizing our metadata on BigQuery, we’ve reduced the time spent reconciling mismatched data by over 50%. Having a single source of truth for metadata has not only improved reporting accuracy but has also made audit preparation much easier. It’s reassuring to know that all our metadata is readily accessible and queryable, with processing times that consistently beat expectations.

Great for large data, but can get pricey.

What differentiates Google BigQuery from other similar products?
Google BigQuery stands out because it is serverless, meaning you don't need to manage or worry about the underlying hardware. This makes it easier to use, as you can just focus on analyzing your data.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
My favorite aspect of this product is that BigQuery is cost effective. It charges based on how much data you query, not on how much storage or computing power you use, which can make it more cost-effective.
What do you dislike most about this product?
What I dislike most about Google Big query is users don't have much control over the system because BigQuery is serverless. This can be a problem for people who want to customize settings for better performance.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
I would recommend Google BigQuery for analyzing large datasets easily, but be aware of its costs for big queries and the time it might take to learn its SQL.
Pros
- Helps Innovate
- Continually Improving Product
- Reliable
- Performance Enhancing
